Organizing my shoes

I worked on a project that has been on my to do list for years. In 2002 Dave made sticker pictures of my shoes and we out them on boxes. Years later we still have the boxes kicking around for various things but none of the shoes. (my feet shrunk almost two sizes the year after I moved back to New England after a decade in Florida)

I got a case of 20 shoe boxes from the container store.(tip when you move and change your address with the post office check the coupons box! You get dozens of fantastic coupons for from places that specialize in new home and organization. 20% container store for one!)

I took pics of all my heels and used my Polaroid printer (I don't think they make this new anymore. I have had it for 3 years)

In the closet

I put some in my closet. (I put the stickers on the side of some to make it easier to see in the tight space)

Outside the closet

The rest live outside the closet. I have about 50 pairs including flip-flops which I have at a least half dozen. Boots live elsewhere in the apartment in their own cabinet.

I almost never pay full price for any shoes except Target. I personally find shoes are something you can almost always wait to go on sale. Marc Jacobs has a 70%/80% off sale (depending on style) every season. Clarks has discount punch cards. I like to try shoes on in store then find cheaper online. Nine West is a good place for that. Sign up for email list for your favorite brands.

Another thing I did this weekend was finally try out a sock bun. If your interested in trying it yourself check out YouTube for tutorials. I think your hair needs to be pretty long though.

Been meaning to try this for months. D'rae Reinspired me. Sock bun hair. There is a neon green argyle sock in there.

It's over the top and I love it!

It's too bad the kittens don't like the porch

It cooled off enough to open the porch. The kittens are taking full advantage.

How was your weekend? What did you do? Eat?

What color sock did you use for your bun? I keep avoiding it because I don't know which color to buy that would not show through horribly if the bun went off kilter during the day.

Neon green argyle. Seriously. I doubt your hair would ever show. Once you try you'll know why I say that.

That shoe-organizing looks genius. And I LOVE the bun! I think you are singlehandedly wanting to make me have long hair again... oh, well, it'll be a long wait either way till it's THAT long...

What a great way to organize! You had to be really creative in your last place, for sure.

The bun is pretty darn cool, and the kitties look to love the new place.

I love your shoe organization. Mine are still in a box in the spare room and I take them out as I need them and leave them in a pile by the door . . . so yeah, I definitely need to go to the container store.

I love how the sock bun looks. I don't think my hair is long enough though.

Love the shoebox idea. My boyfriend recently saw similar boxes on sale for 89cents! He bought about 30 for me and I didn't have the nerve to tell him I needed more. LOL

I did one and used a black sock. I actually slept in my bun and it did go off-kilter, but you could never see the actual sock. So I think any color sock will work.

I bought a nylon mesh bun form (rat) at Walgreen's and LOVE it! Nice thing about the mesh is that it is easy to pin into the form itself...makes for a more stable bun. I'd love to find a huge bun form for a really big bun, like yours!

I'm wearing my form here:

You can see it a LITTLE better here:

Obviously, I need to get a good photo of the bun in the future!

How neat and organized ! I love how you were able to photograph your shoes and put many of them in boxes. I have a real issue in the shoe department I may have to address someday.
SOck bun ?!? I am googling this, I never heard if it and it looks FAB:)

Kasmira I oddly didn't have to pin this. My sock isn't terribly big but combined with my hair... Out of control. I may look for something smaller but wonder if it will hold my hair?

OMG! I'm totally in the process of doing this same idea. The real task is finding the time to pull all of my shoes out of the closet to take the pics....and then purchasing the storage boxes to put them in. It's definitely a work in progress but it will be sooo worth it later!!!
