Yellow and Black

this one

Rainy overcast today so I wore my ball of sunshine sweater. The iFone doesn't adequately show how BRIGHT it is. Exact color of big bird.
Sweater NY&Co 2009
Pants Gap 2010
Boots Clarks 2005
Necklaces made from a bunch of necklaces 2009. You can read about it here.
Blouse H&M 2011. It is the same exact cut as this one but in a different fabric. Bought a year apart too!

I need to see if I can get these resoled. I went thru the rubber on the heel on my way to work.

I let Dave cut my bangs on Monday. Not the look I was going for but hey it was time for a change! Plus they will grow!
this one

I am at day 11 of my Shellac manicure.

day 11 shellac

I had my first chip. On my ring finger. But to be fair it is my fault, I was picking at it. Nervous habit. I had broke my thumb nail on day 2 (not shellac problem it was split when I had them done. It didn't get any worse where I cut it at a sharp angle because it broke low. Even though it wasn't a nice smooth edge it didn't chip at all)

Going to mix it up a little and express a little gratitude. I have a friend who is a cancer survivor that battles diabetes and health concerns. But through it all she is super positive. She posts daily 3 things she is grateful for. Some days they are big things and sometimes they are small as a pen. I know I could benefit  with more of the positive talk. If you'd like to play along please feel free to list as little or as much as you like in the comments. I will picking 2 people for buttons.

Three things I am grateful for today:
1. The amazing people I have met through my blog. I've had the change to "meet" people all over the globe I never would of met.
2. My mom's sense of humor. She and I have our own brand of twisted humor and no one makes me laugh as hard as she can.
3. Facebook. Sounds silly but I am so much "closer" to my family because of Facebook. None of us are good about calling one another but Facebook has afforded us the chance to connect. Some days I admit I hate Facebook  and that people from my past can find me but the good outweighs the annoying today. (I keep my personal Facebook friends and family only but please feel free to add byhillary)

Boots are worth the resoling, done it many times and always glad I did.
I love love that sweater! The only reason I keep up on facebook is family, otherwise I was over it long ago. Okay, grateful for:
1. Surprising pregnancy and then safe delivery of baby boy lemondrop. I never thought I would be (or wanted to be) a mom, but I am very grateful for him and learning to love it.
2. My health. Being incapacitated in any way makes you happy when you are not.
3. My family, I have a small one but I know they are there for me when I need them.

I know it is worth it I do it often I don't know if they CAN with this pair they couldn't with another rubber sole ones I had last year that were similar. They have a weird raised flower pattern.

Love the yellow! My three things:

1. My mom. Right now I live with her and I work with her. Yes, we drive each other crazy sometimes, but I honestly don't know what I would do without her (I don't mean if I moved, but if she just weren't here) She knows how to keep me level headed and she makes me laugh. I sound like I'm overly attached to my mom. I guess in a way I am. A lot of my friends have parents who passed away (too soon, we're all only in our 20's), so it really makes me appreciate my mom even being alive still.

2. The internet. There really isn't much in my life that I didn't learn part or all of through the internet. For example makeup is a passion of mine. I did go to school for it, but learned nothing. As I like to say, I got a $700 set of brushes out of it. Everything -good- I know, I learned from trying out things I see online. When our internet is freaking out and not connecting (which is often does, thank you Comcast) I start to get anxious.

3. Hello Kitty. Really I just love Hello Kitty, there is nothing long and sentimental about it. She just makes me smile.

I'm not sure where you take your shoes to be repaired, but if you worry about your current shop not being able to do it, take them to Mr. Savas in Davis Square - he can work miracles, but will also be upfront about cost, time, or if even he is unable to do the job to his satisfaction.

I get it. I haven't lived with my mom since I was 18 and I know we'd also drive each other crazy but I'd love to have her THERE hell I'd take same tristate area! (she's over 1200 miles away)

I'm doing a similar thing with the thinking positively! It's the season of Lent, so I decided to give up complaining and bad attitudes. Day one was hard - I lost my wallet, had a jug of milk explode on the way home from the grocery store, and then locked myself out of the apartment. But all in all, I was glad that a) I found my wallet (which I had locked up at work the previous day... silly me), b) that I could afford groceries, and c) that I had the foresight to hide a key in my car.
Glad you blogged today - you were MIA for a couple days and I was going to email you to see if you were taking a hiatus too! (No blogging for me until this bad attitude is officially out of my system!)

Not intentionally taking a break. Stuff came up. (family, work, blah) which is too bad I wore a great outfit yesterday.

Hi Hillary! Here is your Daily Horoscope for Thursday, March 10
Today is all about the people you can count on -- not just random social network friends or those you don't see often, but reliable family members and others you've known for quite a while. You all need each other!

I like your bangs. What would you have preferred?

I think I know the person whom you are referring to who expresses gratitude. She is a blessing in my life, if so.

You know, I have read and believe that you can't be happy unless you have a sense of gratitude. By emphasizing gratefulness, I think you are making the world a happier place. Thank you.

I so love all the floral you have going on here...that cardi makes me yearn for spring and sunshine!
very cool mass 'o necklaces!

I had originally wanted them longer. just to the top of my glasses. But hey it was time for a change!

You DO know the person.

I have that same yellow cardi and love it! Excellent styling of it here!

I'm grateful for my wonderful spouse, for my current job, and for good coffee.

I am grateful for the "style bloggers" I have recently discovered who are so much more! You are terrific, Hillary, and I enjoy your blog so much.

Thanks Dude! That's why my header says "this is not a fashion blog" :) I do not consider myself one.

I love the sweater so much! I am glad to see your Shellac is holding up better than mine did. And, thank you, for inspiring me to think of things I am grateful for... Maybe I will post them later :)

My Leather Jacket

I have to hunt down that top. I have been looking for a good tie neck blouse for ages.

What I am thankful for
1. My students---ran and interactive teaching session with them this morning and they were so stimulated, engaged and participated and surprised me with their investment and preparation for the topics. Very stoked.
2. Pudding---dulce de leche, totally the highlight of lunch
3. My adorable mother in law who took me and my husband to dinner last night for his birthday. I completely lucked out when it comes to MILs.

hillary said...

The top also comes in cream with black polka dots. It's $16 I think. I throw it in the laundry no problem too. Yeah on the mil and interactive thing!

That yellow is a big drop of sunshine in the gloomy light around here today.
Things I am grateful for today:
1. Good health after a 5 year slog of health woes. I did a spinning class this morning and didn't pass out.
2. Cardinals that sing even in the pouring, slushy rain.
3. The real friends in my life - and that includes you.

hillary said...

I'm thankful for you! And I so know your 1. Seeing Dave go through it.

Gotta agree, I am ridiculously grateful for your blog. It's one of the first things I read after waking up.

Yellow= perfect! I've always been terrified to wear it, but I'm finding tiny little ways to throw it into my wardrobe. You completely rock that sweater! Ah, hell...everything looks great today! =)

Yes, indeed to the Facebook thing. My job requires me to be public in the media, so I had to make two Facebook profiles (one for Work me and one for Me me). It's rather neat being able to connect to so many different people AND the people who have been in your life since birth.

hillary said...

I didn't wear yellow until recently because I too was scared of it especially with my freckles and hair. But I figured what the hell it makes me happy! And thank you for reading!

I LOVE yellow and black together and it's kinda sorta hard to manage not looking like a bee. You succeeded in NOT doing that, obviously. I have that cardi in green but I never wear it because it is so dang short on me. I may just have to pull it out soon though because I do so love the florettes and the bejeweled buttons!

I am grateful that I a) have a good job (two of our contractors' last days are tomorrow), b) have a child with medical issues who is, for all intents and purposes, a "normal" kid aside from his seizures/ADD (talked about a child with cerebral palsy today at lunch), and c) that my kids go straight to bed at 8pm sharp so I can have some ME time! (Hey, it's the little things!)

I'm happy to hear he is doing good!

I like the patterned top with the yellow cardi. It works!

I also like the idea of posting happy things. It's a nice reminder for us all.

Today I'm grateful for...
1) Thank yous. Sometimes people breeze in and out of where I work and bring in a lot of negativity. Today, I had a lot of kind and gracious people. It feels good. 2)I currently have two happily purring cats with me on the couch. Both of my cats passed away last year. My new friends are wonderful. 3)So I passed by a sports bar advertising UFC pay per views. It reminded me of and old boyfriend and how we used to rent old Ultimate Fighting Championship videos from Blockbuster before anyone knew what it was and make bets on who would win. It made me think of him and how even though we didn't make it, I'm so glad we had what we did.

hillary said...

Oh my gosh, THANK YOU!

I'm in the same boat with the freckles and hair. I tend to look best in blue, but golly...I do love me some yellow! Thank YOU for doing this blog- it makes me miss blogging!

xoxo
