I've seen a half a zillion girls and I haven't spoken to a single one of them.

I saw this moleskine type journal called Fashionary on What I Wore just before Christmas. It had outlines of people drawn on each page so you could sketch fashion ideas. I thought it was the neatest idea and of course shared it with my husband. Him being the amazing man that he is ordered it for me. I just got it. (FYI if you order one expect to wait a few weeks)

I am a "classically trained" (or so I have been told because of my schooling) draw-errrr (That does not mean I am any good at it. It means I have had years of classes and a thorough knowledge of technique and WHAT HAVE YOU) Despite this I suck at drawing. If I really really really pay attention and take my time I can draw you a vase and get the shadows right but that is where it ends. My people? Yeah not so good. My heart is just not into drawing. My medium was more kinetic sculpture and video.

I have NEVER called myself an artist. It's a loaded statement and one I don't feel comfortable making. That said I am itching to make schtuff again. I sat down with Dave's drafting stuff Friday night and drew up a couple outfits. I love this book because it has dotted lines to make a very thin tall person (You know everything I am not!) I planned out 5 outfits total. 4 with real clothes I own and I came up with a dress I want to make. I should of scanned these but to be frank I just wanted to do it and I am having a BAD DAY.
You do not need to point out my inability to draw shoes. I am aware. The husband my biggest fan even laughed. I look like those ladies with the bound feet. Like I might topple over.

Today I wore the first outfit.

I didn't like my photos today. I also forgot the bangles from the drawing. I think it has to do with the coat being double breasted and it only looks good in person or buttoned. It doesn't photograph well. It just looks like too much fabric.

Dear Marc Jacobs,
I love you.

I look so judgey in the accessory detail shot. CAT OUT OF THE BAG, I am. I am the nicest bitch you'll ever meet. (oh shit did I just steal that from Sammi?)

So the details
Skirt and shirt Ann Taylor Loft
Jacket SJP for Bitten
Tights Hue
Shoes Marc Jacobs (70% off!)
Necklace I made it from 5 or 6 other necklaces
Earrings gift from inlaws

Want to see what I made for dinner yestahday? Sure you do. It took 20 hours to make. So you are gonna look dammmmmmit.
Homemade baked beans with bacon and a roast mustard brown sugar ham
Those beans are FROM SCRATCH. My house has never smelled so good.

I feel bad I post so many pics of Waffle so here is a video featuring Daisyboo. I take just as many photos of her but they never come out. She is all black down to her toe nails.

I love the idea of a journal like that! I keep lists in a little composition of outfit combinations and things I want to pack on trips, but the illustration portion would be super helpful. Oh- and your hair is very cute today, as are those lovely MJ shoes! :)

Ohhhhhhhh my god. I LOVE THOSE SHOES! They are marvelous! And especially with the short kinda flouncy skirt... so freaking cute!

And now I want that fashionary thingie. I was thinking it was too advanced for me, but I didn't know about the dotted line figures! I might have to draw outside the lines to add a little curvaciousness... but having a template to start with makes it SO much easier I'll betcha.

It is a fully formed person so literally you just color it in really. I don't like how long and lean it is because it isn't me but they say on their site they are open to feedback that this was the first version of the book.

I just commented on your Flickr about the drawings. This is a great idea - and because the people are already 'dotted' in it is actually something I could do...maybe.

That fashionary is the coolest idea! And I think those MJ shoes are my favorites of all time...they are just exquisite.

Those drawings are, in fact, awesome sauce. And the fact that you made real outfits. To die. I love it.

Your shoes are amazing. I love the style and color!

I so love this outfit. Especially your skirt + shoes combo. Yummmmmmm!

And that notebook is an awesome idea! Too bad I am crap at everything involving making pretty things with my hands.

to all who say they have no ability. Do you need me to scan a drawing? My stick people wearing skirts?? The book literally is dot to dot!

thank you all!

Kimberly said...

I can attest to the dot people being a major help! I have no artistic ability! I bought one of these before Christmas and just finally sat down with it last night and sketched out my outfits for today and the next couple. Seeing this reminds me I need to get some colored pencils!!

Oh and seriously, this skirt is so fantastic! Love it every time you wear it.

I have that very same issue with most of my cats.

Those shoes are adorable.

Those beans looking flippin AMAZING. I want to go to there.

Also, I've been really wanting one of those notebooks, too. You may have just inspired me!

Those shoes are gorgeous and the kitties are cute!

Ooooh, I want that journal; I am not artistic at all, but I could be with something like that!

The beans look delicious, but the shoes look even yummier.

P.S. I nominated you for an award in my blog today.

Daisyboo is such a sweetie! I love black cats. And I know what you mean about having an aromatic house after making dinner. I still smell like curry after my first attempt to make it today. Let's say I will leave the curry to the experts at The Peacock restaurant if I want curry again.

Oh my goodness - I love those shoes so much!!

Beatrice. I think so too! She is my pretty little girl. Waffle is my adorable little demon spawn.

Kristen. Thank you!! I feel honored.

Clare DO IT! **peer pressure**

Kimberly. Do we get to see? (sayyes)

Thank you so much everyone. I really appreciate it!

I love your blog! Love the shoes too! Was looking at a pair of Marc's lately and was curious how you find the sizing? Do these seem to run small or large or pretty true to size?

hillary said...

thank you. Welp that is hard to answer. I kept track of what size I wear at what store in a file on my iPhone(for refrenxe when I order online) and apparently from the 3 pr of mj shoes I own I have a 37 37.5 and a 38. I wear a 7 in most stores so I talked to the guy at the store and he said there are three factories each in a different country and he finds they vary because of it. My new ones are from Italy and they are a 37 (which in most stores is 6.5ish)

I love this outfit and your shoes are fabulous, but honestly? That plate of food you made is making me hungry!!! I love ham and the whole dish looks delicious.

The Fashionary book is cool too, I love your sketches. I did one myself today, would you mind if I linked to this post?

Ooh, what a great idea! I have a notebook where I doodle all my outfit ideas. I have so much fun doing it!
